January 4, 2018, marked the beginning of a new year, and NASA wished all Kenyans a happy New Year and a prosperous 2018. The media fraternity was also extended similar wishes, as partners in the journey to make Kenya a better country.

As the country looked forward to a new year, NASA emphasized the need for justice, fairness, and equity to all Kenyans, regardless of their location or name. The organization aimed to make these abstract concepts a reality in 2018, with a focus on electoral justice and self-determination.

Recalling NASA's Christmas and New Year message, the organization declared 2018 the year of choosing between resigning to dictatorship or standing up for what one believes in. Kenyans were called upon to choose between accepting that the vote would no longer matter and demanding that each vote counts and must be counted.

On Sunday, January 7, 2018, NASA would head to Western Kenya to continue the people-driven initiative, with the details of the program and events to be held in Kakamega disclosed by the NASA leadership in Western Kenya.

This event was a continuation of the People's Assembly process, which started at the Coast on Sunday, December 17, 2017. The region had set in motion the process, and other regions would convene similar forums in the course of the month, leading to the inaugural National People's Convention at a date decided by the people themselves.

Through the People's Assemblies, NASA aimed to breathe life into the foundation of the Constitution, namely the Supremacy of the Constitution and Sovereignty of the People.

Reiterating their New Year message, NASA reminded their supporters that cruel rulers have never defeated determined people. The organization emphasized that cruel leaders and regimes inflict pain and suffering, but ultimately fall, as seen in the case of Robert Mugabe, who fell in hours.

Regarding the swearing-in of the People's President and Deputy President, NASA acknowledged the public's eagerness to hear about the event. An Assumption of Office Committee was already in place and working, and would be unveiled in the coming days, keeping the public informed.

Issued by the Organizing Committee of the People's Assembly, Nairobi, January 4, 2018.
