On September 17, 2019, All African Advisors announced the results of a survey at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi, ranking Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu as the worst performing governor in the country.

The survey, which included a devolution assessment study conducted between June and August 2019, found that Waititu's poor leadership skills and inability to generate revenue for the county were major factors in his low ranking.

Conversely, Governor of Machakos Alfred Mutua was ranked as the best performing governor, with Kakamega's Wycliffe Oparanya and Governor Mike Sonko of Nairobi county coming in as first and second runners up respectively.

Infrastructure development was identified as a leading priority for many constituents, with the highest impact on determining the effectiveness of county governments.

Notably, a separate survey conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) Research between October 2018 and June 2019 found that Kiambu County was ranked second in terms of news coverage, largely due to corruption-related cases.

Waititu has faced recent scrutiny, including being barred from accessing county offices after being mentioned in a case of over Sh588 million and embezzlement of public funds.
