On September 17, 2019, a court in Nairobi allowed an application from the Prosecution to have two suspects remanded at the Kilimani Police Station in connection with the Moyale cash heist.
The suspects, Roba Diba Boru, the Operation Manager at Equity Bank Moyale, and Langat Kipngetich Nelson, an employee at Wells Fargo Limited, were detained for 10 days to allow police to complete investigations into the theft of Ksh. 42 million.
According to the Prosecution, if the two suspects are released, they will interfere and intimidate probable key witnesses.
It is alleged that the two were aware of regulations and security standards at the OODA Airstrip Moyale, where the money was being transported, and could have directed the pilot not to land at the airstrip at the time because no proper security measures had been put in place.
However, upon arrival at the airstrip, three armed persons emerged and ordered those in the aircraft, including the pilot, to lay down on the ground. The gangsters then reportedly made away with the money on a motorbike.
The matter will be mentioned on October 2, 2019, for further direction.
