On March 2017, over 1,000 families were left homeless after police officers descended on a camp at Itare dam in Kuresoi South, Kenya, and demolished structures.
According to eyewitnesses, armed police officers invaded the camp at around 6:30am and asked the locals to vacate the area without prior notice.
Simeon Cheruiyot, a local resident, recalled that the officers asked them to collect their belongings from their houses and leave immediately.
The demolition left the residents without a place to call home, with many having lived in the makeshift houses for two years.
