On September 17, 2019, BBOXX launched BBOXX ePay in Rwanda, a new service that enables family and friends to send energy back home from anywhere in the world.
According to Mansoor Hamayun, CEO and Co-founder of BBOXX, the company has impacted more than 80,000 households in Rwanda with its remotely monitored solar home systems. However, a key challenge remains accessibility and affordability for low-income segments of Rwanda's population.
BBOXX ePay aims to address this challenge by empowering Rwanda's diaspora to transform the lives of their families, friends, and communities through payments that enable energy access. The service allows users to select from a variety of packages, including LED TVs, portable radios, and phone chargers, which can be paid for as long as 10 years via debit or credit card payments.
Starting prices for BBOXX ePay are from USD65 (or RWF 59,200) for a one-year electricity trial, with discounts of up to 33% available. The service is expected to contribute towards Rwanda's goal of achieving 100% electrification by 2024.
