September 17, 2019, marked a significant milestone for 19-year-old Misky Hajji, a Somali girl from Mandera County, who has authored a book at a tender age in a community where literacy remains a challenge.
Her book, 'Reset', is a poetic masterpiece that voices the trials and tribulations of marginalized communities, including her own. Misky's writing journey began when she was 10 years old, and she completed her first manuscript by the time she was 14.
With the support of her mother, who encouraged her language skills by providing her with daily newspapers, Misky's passion for writing grew. She thanked God for gifting her with the talent, saying her journey to becoming an author balances between poetry and storytelling.
During the book launch in Nairobi, Garissa Governor Ali Korane pledged to buy 200 copies of the book for every school in his county, aiming to improve literature skills and writing among students.
Wajir Governor Muhammed Abdi emphasized the importance of education, stating that it prepares students for life and helps them find a pathway to employment, as well as engaging in extracurricular activities like writing. He added that writing skills can be used to document society's rich culture.
Mandera North Member of Parliament Bashir Abdullahi encouraged leaders to support women in all their endeavors, using the theme of the book 'Reset' to retune minds from violence to attain peace and security.
As Misky Hajji's book 'Reset' resonates with the community, her message of hope and resilience inspires young people to pursue their passions and make a positive impact in their societies.
