On September 16, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the recovery of Sh1 million from a cowshed in Lurambi, Kakamega County, which was believed to be part of the Sh72 million stolen from Nairobi West.

The money was recovered after detectives arrested Bernard Sewanga, a G4S officer, who had gone into hiding in a newly-rented house in Ruiru. Sewanga later led detectives to his father-in-law's house in Lurambi, where the money was found covered in a black bag.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, the suspect has been brought back to Nairobi to face charges alongside his accomplices. The arrests bring the total amount of money recovered to Sh11 million, with 15 suspects arrested in connection to the armed robbery.

So far, nine suspects, including two policemen, have been charged in court.
