Phenny Awiti, a mother of two living with HIV/AIDS, has been creating awareness about the disease through her journey.

When she was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 2008, she was warned of the side effects of taking ARVs.

Awiti revealed that she experienced unusual changes in her body after starting ARV treatment in 2008, including significant fat reduction in her hips and buttocks.

She explained, 'It’s like they were slashed!'

However, Awiti noted that current ARVs have fewer side effects compared to those from a few years ago, applauding manufacturers for improving the manufacturing of drugs.

She emphasized the importance of knowing the type of ARVs used and their potential side effects, citing the example of Stavudine, which was banned due to its harmful effects.

Awiti encouraged people to share their experiences and knowledge about ARVs to help others understand the changes in their bodies.

She concluded by advocating for a stigma-free society, embracing the marks that ARVs and HIV left on their bodies, and embracing who they truly are.
