On September 14, 2019, Tyson Fury proved his resilience in the ring, surviving two severe cuts in his win over Otto Wallin in Las Vegas.
The 31-year-old former world heavyweight champion required 47 stitches after the grueling bout, which saw Wallin push him to 12 rounds before Fury secured a unanimous points decision victory.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the fight, Fury downplayed the severity of his injuries, saying, "I went to the hospital, had a few stitches, went home and had an early night. Then I've got up, gone to the casino, won five grand, had a few beers and now I'm going to have a few more beers."
However, Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, expressed concerns about the potential impact of the injuries on a proposed February rematch with WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
"If it doesn't heal well the fight may have to be pushed back," Warren said. "Hopefully that will not be the case. It depends how it heals. If it's OK it won't be a problem. It's not just the fight, it's the training and sparring. He has to be 100 percent right."
But Fury remains confident about his readiness for a quick return to the ring against Wilder, stating, "I'm ready for war. I think it was just over 40 stitches inside and out with both the cuts. Listen I'm all right. It's boxing. You can't go swimming and not get wet. It's the fight game."
