On September 17, 2019, Ethiopian international Oumed Oukri made a significant move in the Egyptian football scene by joining Aswan from Smouha. Aswan secured promotion to the Egyptian Premier League's top tier after finishing first in group A of the Egyptian Second Division, eight points clear of their closest rival Beni Suef.

Aswan's promotion sparked a major overhaul, with the club signing 16 new players in a bid to maintain their position in the top tier. Oumed Oukri's transfer to Aswan is part of this effort to strengthen the team.
