Published on September 17, 2019, the High Court has directed that Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, prime suspect in the murder of her husband Tob Cohen, be detained for ten more days.
Justice Jessie Lesiit ordered that the accused remain in police custody at the Lang'ata Women Prison until September 26, 2019, when she is expected to take a plea in the case.
The court's decision came after it emerged that Ms Kamotho was yet to undergo a mental assessment, which Judge Lesiit directed to be done within seven days.
Additionally, the court ordered a post-mortem exam on Mr Cohen's body to be conducted on Tuesday, in the presence of Sarah's doctors as well as those of the victim.
The court also barred the media from publishing details of the investigations into Mr Cohen's murder, as well as gagging lawyers representing Sarah, Cohen's family, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and his investigating team from prosecuting the matter in the media.
Defense lawyer Philip Murgor complained that the DCI has been conducting investigations in the media, citing an example of the media reporting that Cohen passed on his Sh400 million villa to his sister Gabriele.
Mr Murgor argued that Ms Wairimu owns 50 percent of the estate and urged the court to release her on bond to fight for her rights through the civil court.
State Prosecutor Nicholas Mutuku said they will disclose all the evidence they have against Sarah once she answers to the charge of murder.
