Raila Refunds Ksh2.25 Million to 9 ODM Aspirants

On September 10, 2019, a meeting was held where claims of deliberate interference with the voter register were laid bare in the presence of Raila Amollo Odinga and other party officials.

Following this meeting, Raila decided to refund the nomination fees to the affected aspirants.

The refund, amounting to Ksh2.25 million, was given to nine ODM contestants, including Dagoretti High School Principal Peter Orero, who emerged second in the primaries.

The ODM party leader's decision to refund the fees was made after claims arose that party officials had doctored the voters' roll, affecting the fairness of the nomination process.

According to reports, the aspirants confirmed that Raila refunded them cash and they received the refund.

On September 16, 2019, two senior ODM party officials confirmed that Raila refunded the nomination fee to the affected aspirants.

Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary General, admitted that there was a challenge with the nomination process, but denied commenting on the refund.
