On 15 September, a police officer working under the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) opened fire on three locals in Transmara village, West Kilgoris Constituency, leaving them with serious bullet wounds.

The officer, armed with an AK 47, started shooting aimlessly in the market, according to area Chief Paul Ruto.

Chief Ruto reported that the officer's actions were unprovoked and that investigations have been launched to determine the reason behind the shooting.

Deputy County Commissioner Hassan Noor confirmed that the incident occurred at around 7:30 pm on 15 September.

Residents of Transmara were urged to remain calm and allow the authorities to conduct their investigations, following a meeting held by security officers from ASTU headquarters, led by Joseph Limo.
