On September 16, 2019, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared Jubilee's McDonald Mariga to contest in the Kibra by-elections, sparking a heated debate between Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

According to Otiende Amollo, the IEBC needs to be 'swept clean at the top levels' after clearing Mariga, who was initially disqualified due to not being a registered voter.

Senator Murkomen countered Otiende's tweet, claiming that the ODM fraternity still holds grudges with IEBC despite the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The argument between Otiende and Murkomen led to a heated debate on Twitter, with Kenyans taking sides and agreeing or disagreeing with the two leaders.
