On Monday, Bandari FC returned to their Mbaraki training ground in Mombasa, shifting their focus to the Kenyan Premier League. The team is set to face Tunisia's Ben Guardane in the second leg of their Caf Confederation Cup match in Tunis in two weeks' time.
With a two-goal cushion, the dockers will take on Zoo Kericho on Wednesday at Mbaraki, followed by a match against Sony Sugar in Awendo on Sunday. Coach Bernard Mwalala believes these matches will provide valuable practice for his team.
“Much as we could have preferred not to play any competitive fixtures before our return leg match for fear of injuries, it is also true that we have to continue playing the league fixtures to avoid a backlog,” Mwalala said.
Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Daniel Manduku has pledged to support the team ahead of their return leg. He will meet the players before departure to motivate them and has promised to attend the match.
“I must say I am very happy for Bandari for putting KPA on the world map, and I am categorical that as KPA we will do everything possible to support the team and ensure they qualify for the group stages,” Manduku said on Monday.
Bandari CEO Edward Oduor has appealed to fans to turn up in large numbers to cheer the team against Zoo Kericho, with the team's focus this year being to win their first ever league title after finishing second in 2017 and 2018 seasons.
