On September 16, 2019, a 73-year-old man named Ngala Chuphi was brutally killed at his home in Dima village, Kwale County, in a case that has sparked a police investigation.
According to Matuga Sub-county police commander Ludwin Sassati, Chuphi was preparing supper for his two sons when an unknown man descended upon him with a panga, resulting in his death.
"The deceased was cooking Ugali when a man crept into his house and committed the heinous act," said Sassati in a statement.
Police revealed that Chuphi was a widower living with his two young sons, and the motive behind the killing is still unknown.
However, Sassati hinted that the killing might have been caused by witchcraft allegations, as people with grey hair have been falling victims to such accusations in the past.
"A manhunt for the suspect has already been launched. Killing grey-haired people because of outdated primitive reasons is unacceptable and culprits will be dealt mercilessly in a court of law," Sassati warned.
The body was taken to Kwale mortuary for postmortem, and investigations are ongoing.
