On September 5, 2019, a brazen heist took place in Nairobi West, where criminals posing as police officers on escort robbed G4S personnel of Ksh.72 million.

According to reports, the team had collected the cash from G4S headquarters on Witu Road with three men who appeared to be police officers. The cash was picked up at around 6am en route to the different bank ATMs.

When they arrived at the Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West, the G4S team called their headquarters for the password to reload cash into the machine. Once it was opened, the thugs immediately turned on them.

Two more suspects have been arrested in connection to the heist, bringing the total number of suspects to six. The suspects, including three police officers, were released on Ksh.1 million bond after being arraigned in court.

John Kamau Mulei, one of the suspects, was arrested at Muumaandu in Machakos County and led the detectives to the house of his 60-year-old grandmother Mary Kyalo at Kalumoni, where Ksh.2,389,000 was recovered.
