On September 5, 2019, a brazen heist took place in Nairobi West, where criminals posing as police officers on escort robbed G4S personnel of Ksh.72 million.
According to reports, the team had collected the cash from G4S headquarters on Witu Road with three men who appeared to be police officers.
As the G4S team arrived at the Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West, they called their headquarters for the password to reload cash into the machine.
Once it was opened, the thugs immediately turned on them.
Since then, six suspects, including three police officers, have been arrested and arraigned in court, where they were released on Ksh.1 million bond.
Recently, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested John Kamau Mulei, a suspect in connection to the heist, at Muumaandu in Machakos County.
Mr. Mulei led the detectives to the house of his 60-year-old grandmother Mary Kyalo at Kalumoni, where Ksh.2,389,000 was recovered.
Mr. Mulei is the brother to Bernard Mwendwa, who was arrested on Thursday last week for also being part of the gang that orchestrated the heist.
