On September 16, 2019, Kenyan climate justice advocate Mithika Mwenda was named the winner of the prestigious International Earth Care Award.

The award, which was presented at a ceremony in the Marriott Oakland City Centre in California, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to international environmental protection and conservation.

While accepting the award, Mithika expressed his gratitude to the organizers and his team at the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), saying, "This Award testifies that our cause is just, It reassures me that our efforts are not in vain. Its shows that despite the ups and downs, there is still strong yearning for climate action that is just and fair, particularly to the most vulnerable among us."

As the Executive Director of PACJA, Mithika has been a leading voice in the fight against climate change in Africa, with the organization having a presence in 45 countries across the continent.

He used the opportunity to call out world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, for their inaction on climate change, saying, "Those who suffered as a result of the climate crisis were the least contributors to greenhouse gas emission."

Mithika's win is a testament to his dedication to climate justice and his efforts to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities.
