Published on September 16, 2019, leaders from the Abagusii community have expressed concern over the slow pace at which the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is handling corruption cases in the country.

According to Rachael Otundo, who is eyeing the Kisii county gubernatorial seat, corruption cases appear to be handled at the national level, targeting the big fish while the small fish who are the majority are left to enjoy their freedom.

Speaking at her Kisii office, Otundo pointed out that the ministry of Lands had promised to remove the Kisii lands registrar Steve Mokaya almost a year ago when the EACC raided the offices and took away files, but to date, the officer in question is still serving at the station.

She also accused the Kisii county government of lying to locals that they were to construct an avocado factory, but equipment has been abandoned to rust at the site while residents have not been prepared to plant the crop.

CEO EACC Twalib Mbarak has been at the center of criticism, with many questioning his effectiveness in fighting corruption in the region.
