As of September 15, 2019, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has introduced revised maximum retail pump prices for petroleum products, which will remain in effect until October 14, 2019.
According to the revised rates, Super Petrol will retail at Sh112.81 per litre, Diesel at Sh103.04 per litre, and Kerosene at Sh100.64 per litre. Notably, Super Petrol and Diesel prices have increased by Sh0.28 and Sh2.44 per litre, respectively, while Kerosene prices have decreased by Sh3.31 per litre.
The revised prices include an 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2018 and the adjusted excise duty rates for inflation. The changes in this month's prices are a direct result of the landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreasing by 0.22% from USD498.46 per cubic metre in July 2019 to USD497.36 per cubic metre.
Conversely, the landed cost for Diesel increased by 4.38% from USD482.47 per cubic metre to USD503.61 per cubic metre, while Kerosene prices decreased by 5.61% from USD513.10 per cubic metre to USD484.29 per cubic metre.
Additionally, the Free on Board (FOB) price of Murban crude oil lifted in August 2019 was posted at USD62.30 per barrel, a decrease of 5.82% from USD66.15 per barrel in July 2019. The mean monthly US Dollar to Kenya Shillings exchange rate also depreciated by 0.13% from Sh103.31 per USD in July to Sh103.44 in August.
