This archive report was first published on 16 September 2019.

My wife, a policewoman, and I have been separated for about two years. We have two daughters together, but she has allegedly told me that our second daughter is not my biological child. She has refused to take a DNA test to confirm the paternity, and instead, our second daughter has started calling me 'uncle', which has caused me distress.

Recently, I asked my wife if she wanted to commit to marriage, but she said she wants to have her own life and doesn't want me to have time with the children. I'm confused and need help understanding what's going on.

One of the readers, Tasma Saka, advised me to 'walk on' and not waste my time, as my wife has already made it clear that she doesn't want me in her life. Another reader, Jayne Mukiri, suggested that I need to fix whatever issues my wife has with me, and then she might change her mind.

Relationships counsellor, Hilda Boke Mahare, believes that unresolved matters have drained my wife emotionally, and she needs time to cool down before we discuss the matter again. She also recommends that I revisit and resolve past issues with my wife, and consider seeking the help of a marriage counsellor.

Simon Anyona, a relationships counsellor, thinks that my wife has moved on with her life and is not interested in me anymore. He advises me to get clear answers from her about the paternity of our second daughter and to decide on the direction I want to take for my life.
