On September 16, 2019, the African Development Bank (AFDB) announced a significant investment in Somalia's infrastructure, committing $28.8 million to two major projects.

The Kismayo Baidoa Urban water project will receive $11.9 million, while the $66.7 million road project will be partly funded with $16.86 million.

The road project, spanning 355km of regional road networks, is expected to enhance productivity, improve living standards, and increase interregional trade, ultimately creating jobs and reducing the cost of doing business.

The Kismayo Baidoa water project will focus on enhancing the quality of life, inclusiveness, and resilience by increasing access to safe water and improved sanitation.

These projects are part of the multi-partner Somalia infrastructure fund managed by the AFDB and align with the key objectives of the Somalia Development Plan.
