On September 13, 2019, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) received submissions from all parties regarding McDonald Mariga's voter registration. The IEBC will now make a ruling on whether Mariga was duly registered as a voter.

Mariga, a Jubilee aspirant, had filed a petition after the IEBC invalidated his candidature over missing details in the voters' register. However, the IEBC has only been petitioned to make a ruling on the voter registration issue and not the authenticity of Mariga's national identity card.

Leina Konchellah has petitioned the IEBC, giving them an ultimatum to clarify Mariga's age when making the ruling. Failure to do so, Leina has threatened to move to the High Court. In her sworn submission, Leina raised concerns about the integrity of the documents Mariga submitted to the IEBC, including his age.

Mariga sat his KCSE exams at the age of 15 years, which Leina claims is unusual. He also started school at the age of 3 years. The new development in Mariga's case could force the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the matter before he is cleared to run for the Kibra seat.
