Kenya's Malkia Strikers Suffer Setbacks in Japan

Published on September 16, 2019, Kenya's national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, made a disappointing start at the FIVB World Cup in Japan.

The team, composed of experienced players like Janet Wanja, Sharon Chepchumba, Mercy Moim, Noel Murambi, Triza Atuka, and Edith Wisa, lost to the Netherlands in straight sets of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-17.

This loss came on the heels of another defeat at the hands of the US, with the Kenyan team losing in straight sets of 14-25, 20-25, and 14-25.

Kenya and Cameroon are the two African representatives at the tournament, and both teams have struggled to find their footing.

Cameroon also suffered a setback in their opening match, losing to China in straight sets of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-19.

Meanwhile, in local volleyball news, General Service Unit defeated Kenya Ports Authority 3-1 to advance to the finals of the Laikipia County Volleyball Championships.
