On September 15, 2019, Ben Mumo made a remarkable start to the Konza Technopolis golf day at the par 72 Machakos Sports Club, securing the overall title with an impressive 21 stableford points from the front nine.
Playing off a handicap of 16, Mumo had a great start with three back-to-back pars from the par-five first, par-three second, and par-four third holes. He also got another par from the front-nine on the par-three eighth hole, with bogeys on the par-four sixth, seventh, and fifth holes, and a single double bogey on the par-four fifth.
However, Mumo's performance collapsed on the back nine, with a foul start after dropping a shot on the par-five 10th hole, followed by double-bogeys on the par-three 11th and 15th holes, and bogeys on the par-four 12th and 13th holes.
Despite the setbacks, Mumo managed to register two more bogeys on the par-four 16th and 17th holes, picking his only par from the homestretch on the par-five 18th hole for an additional 18 stableford points.
When asked about his strategy, Mumo said, 'I had a relaxed round with no hold-ups. I usually play midafternoon but I had a few errands to run and thus opted for an early tee-off.'
He also expressed his gratitude for winning the tournament, saying, 'Konza Technopolis golf day is one of the biggest sponsored events in Machakos and so for obvious reasons, it’s gratifying to be the winner.'
