On November 1st, 2017, a court in Nairobi ruled that former Kiambu governor William Kabogo must pay Kshs 100 million in compensation for illegally invading a 5.1-acre piece of land in Westlands.
The land, located alongside Mvuli Road, belongs to Nayan Patel, who had planned to build a residential apartment and a hotel on the property.
However, Mr. Kabogo and his workers invaded the property, evicted Mr. Patel's workers, and occupied the land illegally.
Justice Elijah Obaga, the presiding judge, ruled that Mr. Kabogo had obtained the land through a corrupt scheme and ordered him to vacate the property immediately.
Mr. Kabogo claimed that he had bought the land in 2007 through Caroget Investment, which was estimated to be worth Kshs 3.5 billion at the time.
