Published on September 15, 2019, the Kenyan government had announced plans to address delayed or unpaid allowances for national teams participating in international events. However, the national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, feels overlooked in terms of government support.

The team, which successfully defended their African Games title in Morocco, has been left with unpaid allowances for the African Games, Intercontinental Olympic qualifiers, and the FIVB World Cup championships. The players, who are currently competing in Japan, summoned Team Manager Ismael Chege to demand their unpaid allowances.

According to Chege, the team feels 'disgracefully overlooked in terms of government support' despite their relentless efforts to fly the Kenyan flag high at international competitions. Chege has informed the team's chairman, Kioni (Waithaka), and assured the players that the ministry will look into the matter as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the team's coach, Paul Bitok, believes there is a big improvement in the squad despite their two losses in the World Cup. Bitok aims to improve the team's performance from their last edition outing, where they won two matches.
