On September 12, 2019, 24-year-old Anne Kathure, a waitress at the Office Inn club in Meru, went missing after her shift ended at 11.00 pm. Her husband, Nicholas Murimi, reported her disappearance the next day after visiting the club and not finding her or getting a concrete explanation from management.
Police in Meru town launched an investigation into Kathure's disappearance after her clothes were found dumped outside her rented premises. An inspection of the staff attendance register at the club showed that Kathure had signed out at 12.30 pm, but her last phone signal was located near the Inspectorate of Motor Vehicles Meru premises, one kilometre away from the club, at 10.54 pm.
North Imenti Directorate of Criminal Investigation boss James Githinji confirmed Kathure's disappearance and said detectives were involved in the investigation. 'This matter was initially under the OCS and we just took over on Saturday,' Githinji said.
