On a sweltering Sunday afternoon, Trans Nzoia Falcons took to the Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi to face off against Makolanders in a Women's Premier League match. The Falcons emerged victorious, securing a 7-2 win.
Martha Amunyolete, a forward for the Harambee Starlets, was instrumental in the Falcons' victory, scoring four goals. Tumaini Nafula also made significant contributions, scoring a brace.
The match began with Martha Amunyolete opening the scoring in the fifth minute with a low shot from the edge of the box. Makolanders had opportunities to level the score, but Mary Njoki's powerful free kick in the 22nd minute went inches wide.
Nafula doubled the visitor's lead at the half hour mark, slotting the ball past Makolanders' custodian Samantha Okeya. Martha Amunyolete made it 3-0 just before the break with a hard shot from inside the box.
Despite Makolanders' keeper Samantha Okeya making a glorious save in the 51st minute to deny Millicent Ayuma, the Falcons continued to dominate. Makolanders did manage to get a reprieve in the 70th minute when Amy Lauya converted from the spot after Monica Paul handled the ball in the box.
However, the Falcons' lead was restored when Sharon Adhiambo scored a delightful volley to make it 3-2 five minutes later. Millicent Ayuwa tapped in to score for Falcons after a goal mouth melee in the 84th minute, and Martha Amunyolete scored arguably the goal of the match a minute later.
Trans Nzoia Falcons held on to pick the maximum points, with Tumaini and Martha scoring a goal each in quick succession. Despite the win, the Falcons remain third on the log with 58 points from 23 matches.
