8 Killed in Uganda After Trailer Crashes into Kenyan Bus

On September 15, 2019, a devastating collision occurred on the Jinja-Tororo highway in Uganda's Nakawa district, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life.

A trailer, traveling from Kampala, veered off the road and crashed into a Modern Coast bus, which was also headed in the same direction. The accident occurred at around 5:30 am, with eyewitness Besweri Kawanguzi witnessing the tragic event.

The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people. The injured were rushed to various hospitals, including Bugiri, Iganga, and Fast Line Medical Centre in Bugiri.

Police took the bodies to Bugiri Hospital mortuary, where they were awaiting identification. According to Officer-in-Charge Hopkins Twesiga, the bus had 40 passengers on board, with six of them losing their lives in the accident. The trailer driver and his passenger also succumbed to their injuries.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, with Mr. Twesiga stating, 'We are yet to identify the exact cause of the accident.'
