KPA Women's Basketball Team Narrowly Trails Equity Bank in National League

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women's basketball team has narrowed the gap with league leaders Equity Bank after a perfect weekend in the MadGoat National Classic Basketball League.

On Saturday, KPA defeated Kenyatta University Oryx 78-45 at KPA Makande Hall, followed by a 74-38 victory over Eagle Wings, taking their tally to 34 points, just three behind Equity Bank who have played a game more.

Against Eagle Wings, KPA took a commanding 29-10 lead in the first quarter and extended their lead to 46-20 at the break, with Hilda Indasi, Becky Nkatha, Vilma Achieng, and Beryl Aoko contributing significantly to the team's success.

Although the second half was evenly contested, KPA emerged victorious with 13-8 and 15-10 scores in the third and fourth quarters respectively.

Indasi led the scorer's list with 21 points, while Achieng and Nkatha contributed 13 and 12 points respectively. Shani had 16 points for Eagle Wings, who now occupy the fifth position with 32 points.

Against KU Oryx, KPA were stretched in the first half, taking a 20-13 first quarter lead but were restricted to a 14-14 second quarter score line for a narrow 34-27 half-time score.

However, they stepped up in the second half, outscoring the students 21-13 in the third and 23-5 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Coastal Kings also secured a crucial win in the Division One match, coming from behind to beat Nairobi Business Institute (NIBS) 55-39 after trailing 24-25 at the break.

Coach Mike Opel expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "We have had a very successful weekend as the players continue to gel, which gives me a lot of satisfaction as far as our preparations for the Zone Five Championships are concerned."
