Women's Expectations of Honesty in Relationships

Women often demand total honesty from men in relationships, but do they really need it? The answer lies in understanding the complexities of human desire and boundaries.

According to a recent survey, many women prefer men to be upfront about their intentions, especially when it comes to sex. Sarah, 26, says she appreciates honesty in relationships, 'I think I'll appreciate the honesty, I think I'll prefer to know what I'm getting into instead of being led on with promises of romantic emotions when there's actually nothing but a desire to sleep with me.'

However, not all women share this view. Zoey, 29, believes that women are often taught to see sex as something they give, rather than something they enjoy. 'This happens because women around here are taught that sex is something they give, not necessarily something they enjoy. The way sex is spoken of in these parts will make you believe that it is something a woman gives in return for a man's affection, care and financial support.'

Some men, like a young Lagos bachelor, believe that women can be easily manipulated by pretending to be interested in a romantic relationship. 'Women think guys don’t know this code but of course we do. So if you are really sexually attracted to a girl and she’s forming I don’t have random sex and all, just work up some romantic act and you’ll be there in her panties in no time. It always works.'

Ultimately, the key to healthy relationships lies in open and honest communication. Women and men need to learn to express their desires and boundaries clearly, without feeling disrespected or manipulated. By doing so, we can create relationships that are less stressful and more fulfilling.
