On September 14, 2019, a disturbing case of child neglect came to light in Machakos Town, where a woman in her late 20s was arrested for allegedly leaving her three young children alone for days.
The children, aged 6, 4, and 1, were found by their neighbour in a single-room house in Eastleigh Estate, Machakos Town.
According to neighbours, the mother of three had a habit of locking up her children and would sometimes leave for up to five days, leaving them without food.
Exasperated by the woman's callous treatment of her children, the residents reported her to the police, leading to her arrest on September 15, 2019.
The three children were taken into the care of the department of Children's Services (DCS) in Machakos, while the suspect is being held at Machakos Police Station.
