Located at the foot of the Aberdare Ranges, Miharati town in Kipipiri sub-county of Nyandarua is a chilly place, especially during football matches at the Wakiriogo Stadium.
On September 11, 2019, David Macharia captured the scene of sheep grazing at the stadium, highlighting the need for a caretaker to keep out trespassers and allow the grass to grow.
Wakiriogo Stadium is home to 20 football teams, including Manunga, Ghetto, Kanyua, Nyati Junior, Machinery, Leeds United, Mahinga, Gordan, Malewa Rangers, and Ihiga, among others.
However, the stadium has not attracted much attention from the County government, with the County Executive for Youth, Sports and the Arts, Dominic Murani, stating that the focus is currently on building Ol Kalou stadium.
Despite the lack of maintenance, the stadium has been fenced to secure it and an ablution block built, according to Murani.
However, the stadium's current condition makes it unsuitable for track and field events, with the toilet built by the County government taking up the area meant for the running track, according to Moses Kuria, the area sports co-ordinator.
Kuria also highlighted the potential of Kipipiri in athletics, citing renowned athletes such as marathoner James Kagwe and 1,500 metres star runner Naomi Mugo of Kenya Defence Forces.
