Running can be a daunting task for many, but with the right approach, it can become a enjoyable and rewarding experience. For three men, running was initially a chore, but they found ways to make it more enjoyable and even look forward to it.

One of the strategies that worked for Ross McCammon, MH special projects editor, was running with friends. Two years ago, he sent a text to two friends inviting them to join him for a run, and they've been running together every weekend since. This approach not only made running more enjoyable but also provided a sense of accountability and camaraderie.

Another strategy that worked for Matt Goulet, MH senior associate editor, was exploiting the Turkey Trot. He used this annual event to challenge his brothers, who were faster runners, and ended up smoking them. This experience not only boosted his confidence but also made him look forward to running.

For Bill Strickland, editorial director of Runner's World and Bicycling, the key to enjoying running was to adopt a more relaxed approach. He recommends gliding, bounding, and sometimes walking, rather than running at a high intensity. This approach not only makes running more enjoyable but also allows for a more efficient and effective workout.

These strategies demonstrate that running can be a positive and enjoyable experience, even for those who initially dislike it. By finding ways to make running more enjoyable and incorporating it into their lifestyle, these men were able to overcome their initial dislike and develop a love for running.
