On September 14, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Peter Karanja, a suspect in the Tob Cohen murder case, in connection with the death of the Dutch businessman.
According to his estranged wife, Gilgil MP Martha Wangari, Karanja was a violent and abusive man who had a history of aggression, drinking large amounts of alcohol, and cheating on her with young women.
Wangari had previously accused Karanja of being 'emotionally and physically abusive' and had even feared for her life, announcing in 2018 that the two were parting ways after five years.
Interestingly, Wangari had also accused Tob Cohen of similar behavior, including being an adulterer and having loose hands.
After his arrest, Karanja led the DCI to the location of Tob Cohen's body, which was found in an underground water tank at his home.
DCI Boss George Kinoti revealed that Cohen was tortured before he was murdered, and his body was dumped in the tank.
