Published on September 14, 2019, Dr. Pimple Popper, aka dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, MD, has been making waves with her Instagram videos showcasing her impressive blackhead removal skills.
Recently, she shared a new video where she removes a huge blackhead from a patient, which can be considered a pore of Winer—a large single-pore blackhead so compacted with material that it can dilate the pore up to a few centimeters in diameter.
A pore of Winer is filled with keratin and dead skin cells, having a black oxidized plug that gives it the distinct appearance of a blackhead. They are mostly found in people, particularly men, who have a history of cystic acne.
Dr. Lee first nicks the pore to give the compacted material room to loosen, then uses a comedone extractor to remove the pore of Winer, pulling the material out with several careful pulls of the metal looped tool.
After the removal, the entire blackhead is still intact, leaving a crater behind on the patient’s skin.
Though Dr. Lee doesn’t note where the blackhead is on the patient’s body, he was apparently unaware of the dilated pore until a dermatological exam.
