Published on September 14, 2019, a time when women were breaking barriers in male-dominated fields.

However, for many city women, the harsh reality of unemployment and limited job opportunities has led them to take up jobs that are often stigmatized or undervalued.

Housemaids, for instance, are a common sight in many urban areas. While some may see this as a respectable profession, many housemaids face harsh working conditions, including being forced to clean corpses.

Barmaids, on the other hand, often face challenges such as working long hours and being underpaid. Prostitution, although illegal in many countries, remains a reality for some women who turn to it out of desperation or choice.

Even matatu touts, a job typically associated with men, have seen an increase in women taking up the role. While some may see this as a viable option, others may view it as a last resort.
