As of this year, a total of 2,437 people have lost their lives in road accidents, a significant increase from the 2,117 fatalities recorded last year.

According to Traffic Police Commandant Samuel Kimaru, the alarming trend is attributed to reckless behavior and lack of knowledge among road users, particularly drivers who fail to attend driving schools to acquire necessary skills.

Kimaru emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, citing the need for drivers to ensure their vehicles are serviced regularly and for boda boda riders to wear reflector jackets, helmets, and carry insurance cover.

Isiolo County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri also urged boda boda operators to adhere to traffic laws and not carry excess passengers.

Notably, a 740km road from Isiolo-Mandera is set to be constructed with the support of a grant from the World Bank, aiming to link Isiolo-Wajir and Mandera.
