Kenya's bid for a seat in the United Nations (UN) Security Council is gaining momentum. In June 2020, Kenya will officially launch its campaign, which was endorsed by other African states during voting at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Kenya secured 37 votes, outshining Djibouti's 13 votes. Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Monica Juma revealed that the campaign will focus on the theme 'peace and security for sustainable development.'

During a press briefing in Nairobi, Juma outlined the campaign's schedule, which includes an official launch at the AU headquarters, marketing efforts during the UN General Assembly in New York, and a float of the bid at an event in Nairobi for African states' representatives.

Kenya will also have opportunities to showcase its bid during the African-Caribbean Summits of the Heads of State in Nairobi in December and other events.

Interestingly, Juma stated that there is no actual budget allocated for the campaign.
