The International Court of Justice has announced the closure date for public hearings in the Kenya-Somalia maritime dispute, scheduled to take place from November 4 to 8, 2019, at the Peace Palace in The Hague.
According to the Court, the hearings were initially set to start on November 4, with Somalia presenting its case first, followed by Kenya's response on November 6. The two sides will then resume presentations on November 7 and 8.
Kenya has less than 50 days to recruit a new legal team to represent the country during the public hearings, following the Court's decision to reschedule the sessions after Kenya requested more time to assemble a new team.
Kenya's current legal team includes Prof Payam Akhavan, Prof Vaughan Lowe QC, Prof Alan Boyle, Prof Mathias Forteau, Mr Karim Khan, and Ms Amy Sanders.
