On September 13, 2019, the news of Tob Cohen's disappearance had been making headlines for weeks, but the police were yet to find any leads. However, on a Friday afternoon, they finally found his decomposing body in a septic tank within his compound in Kitisuru, Nairobi.
Tob Cohen, a 71-year-old tours and travel expert, had been pursuing a divorce case against his estranged wife Sarah Wairimu Kamotho at the time of his disappearance. He had also filed an assault case against her.
According to Director of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti, Cohen's body was found on Friday afternoon dumped in a tank in the compound. The police investigation revealed that Cohen had vanished between July 19 and 20, and his wife had told detectives that he had left for Thailand.
Ms. Wairimu had told Nation that her husband had said he was taking a break, citing that lawyers were pushing him for money and he wanted to seek medical treatment. However, detectives say that there is no evidence from the immigration department that the missing tycoon had left the country.
Initially, Cohen's workers had told police that he left his high-security compound on the afternoon of July 20 at around 2pm, carrying only a briefcase and driven off in a white car. However, his Mercedes Benz had remained parked in the compound, and he had not contacted his relatives ever since.
