On September 13, 2019, the world of athletics witnessed a thrilling competition at the men's 3,000m steeplechase event.

Leonard Bett, the World Under-20 3,000m steeplechase silver medallist, pulled off a stunning comeback to claim the top spot, clocking 8:20.29.

Benjamin Kigen, the African Games champion, finished second with a time of 8:20.56, while Abraham Kibiwott, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist, secured the final spot in the steeplechase team with a time of 8:24.61.

Defending champion Conseslus Kipruto, who had been expected to dominate the event, surprisingly dropped out with two laps to go but still secured a spot in the team due to his status as the defending champion.

The trio, along with Kipruto, will represent Kenya at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, scheduled to take place from September 27 to October 6.
