Published on September 13, 2019, the Kenyan Trials for the World Championships reached its final day at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
Alphas Kishoiyan, the national 400m champion, clinched the men's title with a time of 45.65 seconds, surpassing the qualification mark for the Worlds. He was followed by Alex Sampao (46.06 seconds) and Joseph Poghisio (46.20 seconds) in second and third place, respectively.
Mary Moraa dominated the women's category, winning the 400m race in 52.16 seconds. Gladys Musyoki (52.89 seconds) and Linda Kageha (52.92 seconds) took second and third place, respectively.
Despite battling a thigh injury, Hellen Syombua, the national 400m record holder, finished sixth in 59.99 seconds. She has already qualified for the world event alongside Moraa.
“Today I was just assessing my body but I want to tell my fans that I am alright and waiting for the World Championships,” Syombua said.
