After a two-year renovation period, Nyayo Stadium has finally reopened its doors to host the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match between AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday.

The stadium was closed in 2017 to undergo renovations, which were initially intended to be completed in time for the 2018 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN). However, Kenya was not ready to host the tournament, and it was eventually taken to Morocco.

As a result, Nyayo Stadium has been idle for two years, and other stadiums in the country have been overused, leading to wear and tear. Machakos and Kasarani stadiums have been hosting most KPL matches in the absence of Nyayo Stadium.

With its reopening, Nyayo Stadium is expected to alleviate the pressure on other stadiums and provide a much-needed boost to the KPL.
