On September 13, 2019, Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi handed down a 14-year jail sentence to Warwue Dejene Sar, who had recently escaped jail after being acquitted of a charge related to a 2014 bus bombing on Thika Road.

The sentence was imposed for threatening witnesses in the terrorism case, a serious offense that undermines the administration of justice and the rule of law, according to the magistrate.

Mr. Andayi noted that the accused had achieved his goal of intimidating witnesses, who had disappeared after receiving threats, and that this had a significant impact on the case.

"Criminal justice will be thrown into disarray and eventually die slowly," Mr. Andayi ruled, emphasizing the severity of the offense.

He also stated that offenders must be punished heavily to maintain the integrity of the justice system.

Threatening witnesses is a serious offense that calls for a deterrent sentence, and the magistrate imposed a 14-year jail term, with four years to be subtracted due to the accused's time in custody.

As a result, Warwue Dejene Sar will serve 10 years in jail.
