On September 13th, 2019, Cellulant, a pan-African payments firm, was awarded the most effective recovery of the year 2019 by the Africa’s Business Continuity Institute Awards (BCI) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The award was given for Cellulant's resilience and business continuity following the January 15th terrorist attack at the Dusit Complex in Nairobi, Kenya, which resulted in the loss of six staff members.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Cellulant’s Group Head of Technical Operations, George Murage, dedicated the award to the memory of the Brave 6, who laid their lives on the line to save their colleagues.

Cellulant's recovery was made possible by its strong family-oriented culture, which allowed staff to support each other during the difficult time.

The company also adopted a company-wide counselling program and brought in personnel from other markets in Africa to staff its service desk and critical functions.

Additionally, Cellulant distributed its technology infrastructure to co-location sites and used various cloud providers to ensure business continuity.

Winning this award is a great way to uphold the legacy of the Brave 6, whose work continues to transform millions of lives across Africa.

Since the attack, Cellulant has continued to stand strong and has opened channels for the public to support the families of the Brave Six.
