On September 13, 2019, the Kenyan athletics scene witnessed a thrilling competition at the World Under-20 Championships in Gaborone, Botswana.
Leonard Bett, a World Under-20 3,000m steeplechase silver medallist, pulled off a stunning comeback to win the men's 3,000m steeplechase event, securing his spot at the World Championships.
Bett clocked an impressive 8:20.29 to outpace African Games champion Benjamin Kigen, who finished second in 8:20.56.
Abraham Kibiwott, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist, took third place in 8:24.61, securing the final spot in the steeplechase team.
Defending champion Conseslus Kipruto, who dropped out of the race with two laps remaining, still managed to qualify for the World Championships by virtue of his title.
