Published on September 13, 2019, the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) has welcomed four new member airlines from Kenya, Djibouti, Senegal, and Uganda.
The new members, Safarilink Aviation from Kenya, Air Djibouti, Air Senegal, and Uganda National Airlines Company Ltd., join the association's larger membership comprising major intercontinental African operators.
AFRAA Secretary General Abdérahmane Berthé commented on the growth of the continental body, saying, "We are thrilled to welcome these new members to our Association; we will continue to remain true to our mission to promote, serve African Airlines and champion Africa's aviation industry."
Under Berthé's leadership, AFRAA has been at the forefront of major initiatives in the air transport field in Africa, addressing key challenges such as high operational costs, limited market access, and intra-Africa connectivity.
The association's members represent over 85% of total international traffic carried by all African airlines, supporting $55.8 billion in economic activity and 6.2 million jobs.
Over the next 20 years, the African aviation market is forecast to grow at 5.9% year-on-year, with AFRAA working to reduce airline costs, increase revenues, and adopt industry best practices through its Task Forces and Steering Committees.
